I joined BarterPay in May 2005 as the Corporate Controller focused strictly on accounting and payroll. My role quickly expanded to overseeing IT, legal, as well as general operations and policy within the company, and in 2008, I was promoted to the position of VP of Operations for BarterPay Canada. Most clients don’t know me, but I know that they are benefiting from the staff and franchisees that I have helped train and the tools we have developed to make bartering easier. I like that most days come with their own unique challenges and excitement, as well as being a go to resource for our staff and franchisees when they are trying to figure out how to solve a problem or to find client connections that make sense. My accounting background has been invaluable as part of our banking software development and an understanding of process management helped when developing our custom CRM and other on-line & off-line tools.
I have achieved an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University and I earned my CA while working at PwC in Toronto for 5 years auditing businesses and charities. I have achieved the CGA Award of Excellence, an Ontario Bronze Medal in the Chartered Accountant Uniform Evaluation (2001), and was recognized as a recipient of the Business Link - 40 Under 40 award. Both my education and my work experience have given me a wide breadth of understanding of a variety of businesses and business processes. I am able to apply this knowledge when providing recommendations to clients of how to incorporate barter into their business. The funny part about joining BarterPay is that when I was at PwC, I was looking to work at a company that sold tangible products that you could touch and feel. However, one interview with John and I got excited about the possibility of working at BarterPay and the potential of a barter exchange, which is pretty much as intangible a concept as you can get!
My two daughters are first and foremost in my life. They keep busy in hockey, dance, gymnastics and just having fun. I also love playing and watching sports myself… go Jays, Raptors, Sabres(oops!) and 49ers. I have previously been involved with United Way and fundraising in Toronto, and have gone on a mission trip to work on computers at a school in Jamaica. I currently help at our local church and am one of the directors of the BarterPay It Forward Foundation. The Foundation raises TRADEdollars through several events and distributes to local charities in the communities that have a BarterPay presence.
